Farming in Scotland has always been a dance with unpredictable weather, with uncertainty set to increase as the global climate warms. Some 2040 predictions describe consistent summer droughts while others anticipate cooling from Gulf Stream collapse. This seminar introduces controlled environment agriculture (CEA) as a way for farmers to trade uncertainty for reliability whilst freeing land to restore protective natural capacities, and highlights current trends towards solving CEA’s energy challenges.
