Janelle is from a farming family in Aberdeenshire. Their farming enterprise includes breeding cattle, a small flock of sheep and forestry. She currently works as North Region Manager for the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs, having previously been employed by a local grain co-operative following completion of her degree in Agriculture.

Janelle is a director of The Royal Northern Agricultural Society, having been society president in 2017. She is past chairman of the North East Farm Management Association and currently event organiser for the North East Aberdeen Angus Club. As well as having a long association with SAYFC, she is also a trustee of the Willie Davidson 75th Anniversary Fund which promotes health and safety among Young Farmers.
